Lodge Maiden Chronicles: Week 2

It's been another amazing week up here at the lodge! Sydney and I have mostly been doing gardening and groundskeeping sort of jobs. We finished transplanting everything in the garden (turnips, beets, onions, and cabbage). We also have a lot of peppers and cucumbers in pots in the greenhouse. And best of all, yesterday we potted potatoes on the back porch of the greenhouse.
We also learned how to put together moss baskets. We lined wire baskets with moss, filled them with potting soil, planted flowers in them, and hung them in macrame yarn hangers. We had a couple setbacks when the rods in the greenhouse fell off their hangers (baskets and all), but we finished it all and we don't have any real big problems in the greenhouse anymore. (knock on wood). ;)
Early on in the week Josh, Luke, Daniel, Mackey (Mckenzie), and Garrett came back from their black bear hunt. They got 9 of the 11 black bear tags during that trip. And guess what, Luke let Sydney and I help skin one of the bears! I know, shocking isn't it? But I really truly helped skin a black bear!
That night we had a bonfire, I played some guitar, and Luke taught Sydney and I how to shoot. I only shot four times total and I hit the target twice out of those four! Not bad, huh? :) I also got to taste some of the black bear meat when they grilled it. Not bad at all, just really chewy.
Another adventure of the week was that we were using the 4-wheeler (they call it an ATV here) to take pots of begonias over by the boat ramp. And when we parked it on the hill the gears got stuck and the engine wouldn't turn over. Josh got it working, but the whole gear section has shifted so the stick isn't in it's normal position for different gears. Entertaining. The rest of the groundskeeping we did was to rake debris (pine cones, sticks, etc) out of the moss paths between the different guest cabins. That's not all we'll be doing, but that's what we've done so far.
And for a side note, I wrote a new song this past week. Accompanied by guitar chords. I actually started writing it Thursday morning and just finished it yesterday evening. Not bad. :) Maybe I'll try and send a recording home somehow, since I can't upload memory intensive files with the bandwidth here. We'll see what happens. Oh, and I found out yesterday which direction is North on the island. Very useful. ;)
Love you all!
